‚Thank You For Thanking Me Now’ – is an exhibition exploring the delayed or absent recognition of Black women‘s contribution to the Black community. Often perceived primarily as nurturers and cast as mother-like figures, Black women are often expected to give without question. The care and labour become so normalised that acknowledging their input is seen as unnecessary, even redundant/ natural. The perception contributes to a quiet/ subtle process of dehumanisation, where rest, recovery and appreciation are denied. This visual exhibition, created by a group of local young black women, confronts these dynamics and poses a crucial question: If one is never allowed to give less, how will they ever truly learn to receive?
