The exhibition “geographically post/colonial. How the world emerges from maps and images” invites you to creatively and interactively recognize colonial continuities in images and maps and to identify resistant breaks.

Since the 19th century there have been numerous objects in Hamburg geography that can be found today in school books and other depictions of a wide variety of places and people. With a critical look at these objects, however, it is noticeable that although they shape our world view, they never show an image of reality. Rather, they are man-made. But who or what is behind these pictures and maps? And what stories of the world do they tell? And which ones are missing?

Critical theorists and cartographers around the world are showing us how to create a more just and livable world. This is also the case with the Hamburg student collective Kartattack, which produced a flow-motion film for the exhibition, which is aimed in particular at young people and puts the practice of card-making in their hands so that they themselves take on the power to describe space and to create world views design.

In cooperation with the working group “Critical Geographies of Global Inequalities” at the University of Hamburg and the Kartattack collective.

Admission to the hall of columns is always free.
